Stocking up on food is as simple as a trip to the grocery store, a veritable land of plenty for Americans.
"It's so easy when you have three grocery stores in your vicinity," said Becky Jones of Omaha, who stocks up once a week for her family of three. "You think: how could you possibly not get what you needed?"
But will fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, bread, milk and other household staples still be available if the U.S. is hit with an anticipated bird flu pandemic? If state and federal officials urge people to stay away from public places, like restaurants and fast-food establishments, will they be able to get the groceries they need to prepare food in their homes?
For Jones, the prospect of not having access to food is frightening. She said most people, herself included, only have food on hand for three or four days.
Unlike other critical infrastructure sectors like water, energy and health care, the food industry isn't getting much help from state and federal governments when it comes to disaster planning. That puts the burden on individual supermarket chains and wholesalers to deal with a potentially large number of sick workers that could affect store operations and disrupt the food supply.

Scientists appear to have solved an enduring mystery surrounding the 1918 outbreak of Spanish flu which killed millions worldwide.

Estimates say the epidemic took 50 million lives, more than the First World War. Unlike most bird flu strains, it was lethal amongst young, healthy people.

Canadian lab reconstucted the Spanish flu virus from human tissues preserved in the Alaskan permafrost and infected macaque monkeys. Their findings were reported on Thursday in the journal Nature, and should give a better view of how the virus killed humans than earlier work with infected mice.
It turns out that the H1N1 Spanish flu virus (the current bird flu threat is from H5N1, the nomeclature derived from the proteins which coat the virus) killed 50 million by over-stimulating their immune system, causing the lungs to inflame and rapidly fill with liquid. Lead author Professor Yoshihiro Kawaoka of the University of Wisconsin said: "Essentially people are drowned by themselves."
So a young, healthy person with a young, healthy immune system would be a ripe victim for the 1918 strain. Associated Press reports co-author Michael Katze, of the University of Wahington, said: "It was the robustness of the immune system that helped victimize them."

An Icelandic cod enzyme might be the cure for bird flu, a recent experiment, which the Icelandic company Ensímtaekni hf. took part in, indicates. In five minutes, the isolated fish enzyme killed 99 percent of H5N1 viruses.

The killer enzyme, called penzim, was extracted from the intestines of cod by Ensímtaekni and is currently being developed for beauty products and various types of medicine. The experiment on the H5N1 virus was conducted in London. Fréttabladid reports.

CEO of Ensímtaekni and biochemist Jón Bragi Bjarnason said he is very excited about the results of the bird flu experiment.

“People have feared that the bird flu virus will change into a human flu virus and now we have a likely cure in case that happens,” Bjarnason told Fréttabladid.

Could it be that Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, chairman of the department of bioethics at The Clinical Center, which is part of the NIH is really saying that by vaccinating the 13 to 40 year olds first we are using the vaccine more effectively?
It is already widely known that the Bird Flu creates a cytokine storm in younger people because of their increased resistance - read (they have more antibodies) - that try to fight off the disease.
So in essence, is he trying to save more people in general by giving the most susceptible the vaccine first?
Are those over 40 with weaker immune systems better off when getting the disease than those that are younger?
Is this a case where a stronger immune system can actually hurt you?
There are many unanswered questions here that only time can test. Look at the ages of those that died from the disease - they certainly weren't oldsters in the majority of cases.

JAKARTA, Jan 15 (Reuters) - One of two hospitals designated to treat bird flu cases in the Indonesian capital has been overwhelmed with patients with symptoms of the disease amid a spike of new cases this year, a doctor said on Monday.

Indonesia has seen four fatalities this year after a six-week lull in cases, taking the number of human deaths from bird flu in the country to 61, the highest in the world.

Nine people with bird flu symptoms are being treated at Jakarta's Persahabatan hospital and its isolation rooms can no longer accept any more patients, said Muchtar Ichsan, the head of the hospital's bird flu ward.

A 5-year old girl was being treated at the intensive care unit, he said.

"If we get more patients, we will send them to Sulianti Saroso," Ichsan told Reuters, referring the country's main bird flu treatment centre in North Jakarta.

WASHINGTON — The government ordered enough vaccine Monday to protect an additional 2.7 million people against bird flu, adding to a stockpile for use in an outbreak of the deadly virus.
The $199 million in contracts went to three companies _ Novartis AG, Sanofi-Pasteur and GlaxoSmithKline PLC _ for 5.3 million doses of vaccine. Two of the 90-microgram doses are required to vaccinate a single person against the deadly Asian bird flu known as H5N1.
When delivered, the newly ordered bird flu vaccines will roughly double the existing stockpile, which now has enough vaccine for about 3 million people. The government plans to eventually buy enough vaccine for 20 million people, including emergency and health care workers.
"Having a stockpile of influenza vaccine that may offer protection against the H5N1 virus is an important part of our pandemic influenza preparedness plan," said Mike Leavitt, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services.
Researchers are studying techniques that would reduce the amount of antigen _ the substance that prompts the body's immune system to respond to the virus _ in each vaccine. Using less of the active ingredient could stretch supplies and enable the vaccination of millions more people.
The bulk of Monday's order went to Sanofi-Pasteur for 3.7 million doses, under a $118 million contract.
The government said last week that some of the bird flu vaccine it stockpiled earlier is growing weaker with age. It's not known how long vaccines in the existing stockpile would remain viable.

The Short-term Havoc

Rumors and half-truths began to circulate causing public outcry and protests. Because the protests only helped spread the flu, quarantines were set in place. Wisely, the public was advised to stock up on food and water. Newspapers advised people to stock up on toothpaste, toilet paper and treasure (cash). People were told to shop at off-peak hours and public transport was ordered to run 24 hours per day. But despite warnings to the contrary, doctor’s offices, hospitals and clinics were overrun. Faces masked in paper waited for hours in front of pharmacies in hope of getting relief. Despite clear instructions from health officials, panic broke out as folk finally fathomed that at best only one third of the population had access to anti-viral drugs. In rural areas and smaller towns, there wasn’t any chance at all.

This is a continuation of the previous days story-it is a fictional account of the spread of Bird Flu starting with one traveling business man.

Lee was not the only one in this fight. Infected passengers from Lee’s plane from Hong Kong had connecting flights to major cities in most continents. The global executives Lee had addressed at the office had also flown home diseased. Sadly, some of the medical staff where Lee was diagnosed had also caught it not to mention the crowds Lee had interacted with at concerts, restaurants and on shopping sprees. The so-called Bird Flu or Avian Influenza had indeed spread its wings. It was the start of the first flu pandemic of the 21st century.
The News

Had Lee or any of the others known in time, they would have taken anti-viral drugs hoping to block or at least slow down the replication of the virus. At least the severity of some symptoms might have been eased not to mention a reduction in the duration of sickness. But time had run out - anti-viral medication needed to be taken within 48 hours of the first stages of the disease.

The New Economy Under Bird Flu

There will come a time when bird flu will enter this country and it will affect the way we do everything. At first it will cause a panic that will make people scramble to stock up on medical supplies like masks and gloves and set aside groceries for survival. Then as people settle into the idea of still having to go to work and make a living there will be a re-emergence of interest in doing things online. I am hoping that people will cut back on driving to their offices and put more effort into learning how to email files to each other for updates and using email more for communication. Emailing invoices instead of postal mailing them. Paying bills online more because that will be thought of as more reliable as our postal workers are affected.
Grocery shopping online will see an upswing.
Sit down type restaurants and bars will see their business slow down alot as people will be eating at home more, or only ordering food to go as it is served single service. The single service sector will see an upswing because disposable cups, plates and such will be considered safer.
These are just a few of the industries that you will see changes in as we adjust to less social contact. People will consider staying at home more and doing more things at home such as gardening and home improvement.
I also predict that it will cause gas prices to rise so much that it will pressure people into working from home more online and employers will try harder to accomodate them than they are now.
These are just a few of the things we can look forward to and you will be ahead of the game if you can steer your life in that direction ahead of time so that it isn't such a strain when the time comes. Start off by looking at what you do now, ask yourself what things can you can change to use less gas and that you can you do from home?

Using RSS Feeds to Promote Your Website

Almost ANY web based content can be transformed into an RSS feed. The only real requirement is that the information changes regularly.
Typically, the main use of RSS is to present headlines and a short introduction to "newsy" stories. Create an RSS feed on your site featuring your company press releases, site updates, etc.
I do this using blogger and then put a link to my RSS feed on my Internet Advertising Website.
You can see the little RSS button to the right of the link to this blog on the above page. You can ask your website developer to put a link to your blog and RSS feed on your site or do it yourself.
You can use your RSS feed to announce Upcoming Events, thoughts and commentary, opinions, articles, introducing new products, monthly specials, newsletters and to tell people about new pages you have added to your site.
Once you've got your feed going... remember to submit your feed URLs to the various RSS Feed Directories.

What Happens When you Quit Blogging

Recently I had a customer that wanted me to quit blogging about his dump trailers because he thought he could do it himself. Well he still hasn't created one sentence so it seems his website is now falling down on the search engines. This just goes to show you how important it is to have fresh new content pointing to your site. I told him he had better get started on it or have me do his blogging for him or he was going to lose all the search engines real estate we had worked so hard to cover. Meaning it is an uphill battle to get up on the tops of the search engines and once you are there on the first page of a search you need to continue to keep on doing what you are doing or you will very quickly fall back down again. Recently I decided to start my own blog about used heavy equipment since I also do quite well selling that aside from my website creation and internet advertising business. Adding thumbnails on your own blog with links going to your website is a great way to get more traffic to your site because they are all one way links. Be sure to label your images to give the search engines more keywords to look at. You can label them using the alt and title tags as well as by putting names under your images. Save Gas by Finding Ways to Work From Home

I am the envy of my many friends and relatives that must commute to work every day and with gas prices going up I can gloat even more. I have told them for years to find ways for their employers to let them work from home. Many of them work on computers too but for some reason their jobs are slow to turn to telecommuting. It's been around for ages but it's taken me years just to get my own customers used to doing email rather than calling me. If they want to see me in person they can learn to use instant messenger and see me on my webcam. After a few times of that entertainment they get used to just chatting with it. Most work that is done in an office can be done from home-if people would just put the effort forth to make it happen. You can have paper files Fedexed to you to work on if they can't be emailed to you or disks mailed to you. I get Fedex packages all the time with work from my customers-mostly because they don't know how to email a file they already have on their computer. With the bird flu approaching more and more companies are going to seriously think about ways their employees can work from home. Now is the time to find ways for more people to do their work from home - not when they are too sick to come in or helping a loved one that is. I just heard on the news that some companies are preparing for this eventuality-so now is the time to mention telecommuting to the boss-he doesn't have to know it's because you just want to save on gas.

Website Advertising on Billboards: Here's one that gets overlooked pretty often, but can be very effective if you do it right. Billboard ads are relatively expensive, but they do generally stay up for a long time, and they can be very specifically targeted to an area -- the one where they're physically located. You'll have the best results with this if you can put one near enough to your business that it could say 'turn left at the next junction', or something like that. Phone numbers are, again, pretty useless, although you could have some luck putting a website address up there.
Think of the many other advertising possibilites for your website: Skywriting, Airplane Banners, Hot Air Balloons - that could be a fun business expense.
OK-let's not get too crazy just yet-start off with your website address on your brochures, letterhead and business cards.

Advertising your Website on Television

Have you noticed that almost every company that advertises on television has a website that they flash up on the screeen at the end of the ad? Have you thought about "Advertising on Television"? Unless your business is getting pretty big, this would be quite a bad idea. You'd have trouble producing and airing an ad even on local cable channels for less than $10,000. Of course, if there's a market for your product and you've got the budget for this, you could take a gamble and make a mint. The home businesses that tend to do best out of TV ads are ones that have a 'unique and useful invention' product with easy-to-demonstrate benefits -- think infomercial. Research shows that you can sell almost anything given a 60-second ad, a free phone number and a price point of $19.95.
In some markets advertising on TV is quite reasonable locally but be sure to mention your website in your ad. It is unbeleivable the number of big business owners that forget to do this. Mention your website on everything you have your company name printed on. Sometimes people are more apt to go to a website before they even call you on the phone because they don't want to have to deal with salespeople or being put on hold.

Ways to Advertise Your Website

To continue my discussion about other types of advertising to day I will talk about advertising on the Radio: Wherever you are, the chances are that there's a local radio station. Once your home business grows to a decent size, you might consider buying some time on it.
Really, though, the only kind of home business that can benefit enough from radio ads to justify the cost is one that has anything to do with cars. Since radio is almost entirely limited to use as in-car entertainment now, you know that almost everyone your ad reaches will be a car-owner, and so might be interested in what you're offering. If you offer something that people need cheaply or even for free, you can get a big response.
Unfortunately, that response could be a little too big -- thanks to the time-sensitivity of radio, you'll get mobbed the next day, and then everyone will forget you again. Radio advertising offers the listener no opportunity to keep your ad and refer to it later, or to find it again in the future. You will find that any ads involving a phone number are spectacularly useless. It does help of course to repeat your website address at least 3 times in the ad in the hope they will write it down or remember it.

The media is a powerful thing -- the average person spends an enormous amount of their life consuming it in one form or another, and will spend a significant percentage of that time looking at, listening to or watching advertisements. If you want to use the power of the media, though, you need to know what you're doing otherwise your investment will be a financial disaster. Listed below are the most common forms of media advertising. No doubt you can think of others as well.
Advertising in Newspapers and Magazines:There are two kinds of advertising you can get in newspapers and magazines: classified and display. Classifieds are the small ads towards the back of the publication, while display ads can be almost any size, from a small corner of a page to a massive double-page spread.
I like putting classified ads in local papers with just a website address such as: Used Heavy Equipment at floridaearthmovers.com, Semis, Boats, Motorcycles. It is a very cheap way to advertise and gets enough hits to justify using it from time to time.
Look at your local penneysaver or hometown paper and see if a little local ad can't add some hits to your website.

Writing for the Internet

It`s a well-known fact: Large blocks of copy are intimidating and will often send people running for the hills or at least the Delete button. The solution? Break up paragraphs into two to four sentences. Use several subheadings throughout your emails and newsletters. And use asterisks, dashes, and ellipses (...) to give your copy more rhythm. Bullet points are excellent eye-catchers - use them whenever appropriate.

To convince people to buy your product or service, you must make them believe that your offer is credible and that you (or your product) will deliver as promised.
How do you do that?
Here are three ways you can buildcredibility with the readers of your sales letter:
- Provide testimonials.
- Include endorsement letters from authority figures in yourindustry
- Make your offer and promises sincere and believable.

Free Places to Advertise Your Website

There are lots of free places to advertise. Here are a few that I use quite a bit to sell used heavy equipment. When you open a new account you can put two free ads in the http://www.truckpaper.com Be sure to put your website address in the description of your ads.
For used Antique Tractors and Equipment try YTMag.com-they only allow one picture though.
You can post as many ads as you like with lots of pictures at http://used-heavyequipment.com and let's not forget one of the biggest free advertising sites on the internet http://www.craigslist.org.
Of course be sure not to abuse these sites and follow their policies. It's also a good idea only to place ads on craigslist that are close to home if it is a vehicle you are advertising as most people won't travel very far to look at it seems. But I have been wrong about that before as I recently shipped a Kenworth semi truck to Italy so your buyers can come from very far away.
I even shipped a Mack truck and dump truck to Africa last year.

Writing Good Ad Copy

Sit down and write every conceivable benefit your product has. Don`t know the difference between features andbenefits? Features describe the product; benefits describe the results of using the product. Features appeal to logic...logic justifies emotion...emotion drives sales. Here`s a rule of thumb for benefits: ask yourself "What can my product or service do for my customer?" Then begin to write your letter telling your reader WHAT`S IN IT FOR THEM.
Tell them how much better life will be for them after they buy from you. Tell them how much better they`ll feel. Tell them how their peers will respect them more.
AN EMOTIONAL APPEAL
When promoting anything to anybody, you must remember that buying decisions are based upon emotion and later backed up by logic. Before you write a single word, determine what emotional hot buttons you need to push to "jumpstart" your prospect. Selling dump trailers? and at a loss for words? Go for the "fear of disaster" button with "Making Hurricane Cleanup Easier." Selling political bumper stickers? Hit the "anger" button with: "Let the President Know What You Think of His Policies." Other buttons include: curiosity, greed, ego, vanity, hope and/or fear of scarcity or security.

Writing Newsletters that Get People to ReVisit Your Site

Having a webpage alone is not enough - one of two things will happen: the sale is closed or the prospect will leave the page and never return. That is why you need to send out newsletters to people who have visited your site. By placing a simple email box on the front page so they can sign up for your newsletter you are building an email database. Yes it is good to have a contact form but some people don't like filling out long forms. So keep it simple and just ask for an email address on the front page of your site. Then when you send them a newsletter that contains useful information at no cost into their inbox at periods specified by you, you will remind them of the product they thought they might want later, and often this will prompt them to revisit your site or call you. Be sure your newsletters content is directed toward the specific reasons to buy the product, but doesn't come across as "sales pitch". Fact filled uses for a product and ways that the product will make life better and more enjoyable; these are the points on which to focus. Be sure you include a compelling subject line in the email and don't use the word "free" because some of the older spam filters will cause your mail to be dumped into the junk mail box before anyone reads it. Convince the reader who signed up for your free newsletter that they simply can't live without your product! Offer up a few testimonials in it or a link to your happy customers page. Prompt them to revisit your site by giving them an easily clickable link in the text of your newsletter. Do you cringe at the thought of spending more and more money to advertise your business, product or service each month? If you can change the way you look at advertising costs and change the way you advertise your business will grow beyond your wildest dreams. As a small business owner, you should always be looking for ways to cut expenses and increase revenue. Expenses are anything that is required for your business to function. This can include web site hosting, copywriting or ghost writer fees, office rent and utilities, payment processing fees and even payroll for your office staff. Anything that is designed to bring in sales or leads (and is measurable) is not an expense. Measurable, trackable advertising costs and sales force commissions and salaries are not expenses. These costs are an investment in your business and your future. Measurable advertising that is designed to produce a certain measurable action is referred to as "direct response marketing". Advertising dollars spent on directing a targeted audience to respond via a web site, email address or a special phone number is always an investment, not an expense.
For a home business or small business, it is not always practical to try and "get your name out" to your target audience (known as "branding") by spending thousands and thousands of dollars. A more effective way to advertise would be to run ads that attract the attention of your target audience and entice them to perform "your most desired action". The desired action may be to visit a product web site, which could result in an immediate sale. Use Keywords in your Anchor Text

When doing link exchanges make sure you are using keywords in your anchor text. That is the text that shows up right after your URL. It is the title of your link. Rather than using your company name which most people will not know to search for use the most important 2 word phrase that you feel people would type in when doing a search for what it is you are selling. For instance if you are selling dump trailers you would use the words "dump trailers" as the title to your link or which is also called your anchor text. Here is an example of a well written link exchange:
"Dump Trailers - from Maxi Dump come in many different types and sizes and can be pulled by most heavy duty pickup trucks." As you can see I used the word dump trailers as the anchor text. As search engines gets smarter, tricks get cheaper and we get nearer to coming full circle to an original goal of Internet search: that website content is, indeed, king. It cuts across the grain of some notions we've held in the industry for some time, that there are shortcuts aplenty in the hunt for better search engine rankings. If you’ve attracted a user to your site, you want to make sure he comes back. If he didn’t click on other pages during his last visit, he might click next time. And if he did click on other pages during his last visit, then that’s definitely the sort of user you want returning. Satisfying your users with valuable content will help, but even the most satisfied user can still forget to check your site regularly. That’s why a newsletter is such an important tool. You should always be trying to capture your users’ email addresses. You’ll be able to remind them that you’re out there, tell them that you have good information and suggest that they come back to your site.
This is especially good if you have new inventory you want them to see. You can put links to your products directly into the newsletter itself. One way to create a newsletter and use it to generate more visits to your site is to fill it with original content and make sure that your URL is well displayed. If people feel that they’re getting good content from your newsletter, they’ll come to the site to find out more. The other method is even easier. Know Your Customer: websites that try to sell everything are going to be a turnoff to the average consumer. Even though the Internet is an anonymous electronic force, consumers want to feel as if the website owner knows about and cares about them as individuals, and a website that tries to be Wal-mart to you is going to get exactly what it deserves - nothing.
At the same time, if you understand the type of person coming to your website and you can deliver to them items that they really want and need, you're going to get a repeat customer. Ideally, your web sales should take place within content on your website, and when your customer reads about the item you're selling, they should instantly want it.
Use Targeted Content: Once you know exactly what you should be selling to your customer, you can target your content to support those sales. Consumers, more than anything else, want information on products they may want to buy. And those who sell products depend on "buzz," people like you talking about the product's advantages and disadvantages, to get those products sold.
Targeted content can be the obvious reviews of books, new products, etc. But it can also be things like descriptions of fishing trips where you drop in links to your products you actually used. For instance, if you caught a huge bass last weekend using a particular lure, you can drop in a photo of the lure, linking the photo and a text reference to your lure sales page where you actually allow the consumer to purchase that lure.
This is a trick that television networks are just catching onto. While recent fashions may have been largely driven by the clothes characters wear in popular TV shows, there was no way to purchase those fashions without searching for something similar throughout stores. Just this season, networks are starting websites where you can purchase the sweater Jennifer Aniston wore, or Tom Welling's jacket, even funky new glasses frames. It's the ultimate targeted-content model, if they sell it right.
You probably don't have a network to sell your products on. But you can develop a dedicated audience that knows your recommended products are good, reliable, and exactly what you say they are.

Promoting Your New Online Store

OK. So you took the leap and started your online store-perhaps you were selling Dump Trailers. But, oops, there are no customers and your store is lost in the crowd. All is not lost. You just need to be very creative in how you market your site. The key thing to remember as you market your site is "people buy from people, not companies."

To make money online: 1) You must get traffic to your site. 2) You must convert that traffic to paying customers. To begin simply create a T-chart. Label one column "Traffic" and the other "Conversion." Then brainstorm what methods you will use to to make those happen and turn them into an action plan.

Traffic suggestions for you:

* Pay per click
* Offline advertising
* Article marketing
* Newsletter
* Autoresponders
* Word of mouth
* Joint ventures / strategic partnerships
* Talks to groups
* Participation in online forums / discussion groups

Most online stores are extremely competitive (what's not these days?) and they compete on price - one of the worst ways to compete. What you need to do is find a way to take the focus off the money, find your unique value and promote it from there.

So how do you do that? First you have to know who your prospect is so you can speak to them directly. Hint: Your market is not everyone or anyone. Once you know who your prospect is, you can implement tactics that will convert them into customers.

Here are some ideas that will help your conversion rate:

* Bundled products
* Free gift with purchase
* Regular newsletter
* Autoresponder course
* Helpful content on your website
* Companion blog for your website

These should get you thinking about where you need to go. This is not by any means a complete, comprehensive list -- just a start. Begin by putting all of your ideas together in an action plan. Use your action plan to drive what you do every day. Spend at least one hour on these tasks per day. In no time you'll find you've made a lot of progress.

Create One Page for Each Product

Use unique web pages to promote each separate product you are marketing. Don't try to lump a bunch of products together to save a bit of money on web hosting. Have a site with individual pages dedicated to each product and to nothing else. I just created a site like that called Maxi Dump. Include affiliate product reviews on the website to spell out exactly what the product will do for the purchaser. Include testimonials from users who have enjoyed the product and are willing to allow you to use their names and photos on your website for that product. Write articles highlighting uses for the product and include them on the website as additional pages. Make the web pages compelling, and include calls to act on the information. Every headline must attract the reader to read more. Bullets and highlights of special points will help the reader who is scanning to learn what the page is about find that they have to know more!

Keep Content Fresh

The Internet is primarily two things. It's a huge reference library with information of varying quality, free to anyone accessing it. Being Prepared for Any Disaster

With all the things in the news about natural disasters that could befall us like mad cow, bird flu, hurricanes and tornadoes it is in my opinion a good idea to prepare for any eventuality. Of course I hope none of these things ever happen but if you live in Florida nowadays you are at least prepared in case of a hurricane. This means stocking up on water, canned goods, flashlight batteries, gasoline and having a generator handy just in case. When you live here these are just the bare minimum of things that you need to keep on hand. But if you are looking at something more long term you might want to think about stocking up more food and supplies than what is just needed for a bad storm. We buy a few extra canned goods each time we shop to help spread out the cost of stocking up and we rotate what we have so the older stuff gets used and the new stuff goes in the back. One thing people don't think about is trash pickup-it's good to have a backup plan in case that gets disrupted. It's hard for them to pickup your trash when the streets are flooded. We bought a dump bed for our pickup from http://www.maxi-dump.com so if we have to we can haul trash to the dump ourselves. I know it came in handy for yard cleanup after the hurricanes last year. Secrets of Getting Your Site Indexed in the Search Engines

I get emails all the time from people whose sites just aren't getting on the search engines. On of them whose site I redid recently was http://www.maxi-dump.com. I usually refer people with questions about how to optimize their website to a page that tells about all the things they need to do to accompish this: http://www.a1aweb.com/improve.htm
The first thing I do is look at their website and view the source code to see if their website developer remembered to put meta tags on each page and then I look to see if these need any improvement. If they don't have meta tags I tell them to have their website developer add them or I can add them for a small fee per page. If you don't have a good meta tags with your title, description especially than the search engines will make up their own title and description for your site based on your content. And this may not be as good as what you would of wanted them to come up with. This is why it is so important to have meta tags, this way you can define exactly what you want the search engines to have come up about your site when someone does a search. The Titles are especially important because keywords in them are looked at very closely by the search engines. So make sure you put your most important keywords first and your company name after that in your title. I would suggest doing the same for your descriptions as well. Others Things You can Do To Get More Hits

I just got off the phone with http://www.redzee.com and would like to recommend them as an addition to or alternative to doing pay-per-click thru Google and Yahoo. Thru them you can buy a keyword that pertains to your business and everyone that uses their browser will end up finding you at the top of their search for that keyword. For instance I can buy the word "dump trailer" for my customer http://www.maxi-dump.com for $500 for 5000 clicks/hits to their website. This is much less than you would pay for that word on google or yahoo for ppc. So they get alot more bang for their buck this way. Of course they are paying a lump sum in advance versus one day at a time like they do for the major search engines but that is why it is less per click. Is It Better Not to Give a Phone Number On Your Website

I have found that by leaving my phone number off of my website people are more apt to fill out the contact form. Perhaps it is pure laziness or the inability to type that keeps people from filling out forms but I have been able to cut down on lots of dumb questions by removing my phone number. It seemed that most calls could of been answered with an email if they had taken the time to fill out the contact form. So yes I would recommend leaving your number off your website unless you have someone there to answer it all the time. Also it helps you to collect more email addresses if you force them to fill out a form to contact you versus writing down someone name and number when they call and then possibly losing it on a notepad. When their contact information comes into your email it is easy to drag and drop it into a customers folder.
I use these later to email those in one group perhaps interested in Dump Trucks. I can create one email telling everyone to visit my website http://www.maxi-dump.com or http://www.floridaearthmovers.com to look at new listings for dump trucks or dump trailers. So take your number off your website and save yourself a whole lot of phone interuptions.

Prepare for a Long Hurricane Season

Well it sure is getting warm here early this year...and seeing that bad weather in Australia and in the Midwest just makes me think that is going to be a bangup hurricane season. So now is the time to think ahead and prepare. We just bought a dump bed from http://www.maxi-dump.com
for everything from yard work to disaster cleanup. And even if we don't need it I know there is always someone around here that would like to rent it...notice I said rent and not borrow. I will also throw in a few teenagers for a small fee. Don't forget to get yer generator primedup and running for those weeks without electric. I have a wireless connection so I can still get online as long as I have a few hours I can plug my laptop into the generator to recharge the batteries. If you haven't got a generator nows the time to get one before you really need one and plenty of gas cans on hand. We live out in the sticks and the electric is not very reliable so that is something that is a given out here. I still haven't forgotten the gas lines caused by Katrina last year so think ahead everyone....Hope you'all have a safe and happy summer,

Answer All of Your Emails ASAP

I know that most business owners just don't have the time to answer emails and it is not on the top of their list of things to do. I would like to see more business owners show a greater respect for email inquiries for their products. To me when someone takes the time to look at your website and fill out your contact form they deserve as much attention as the person who walks into the door of your office or store. They deserve more than just a short one line email answer in return. After all if you treated a customer that way in person would you expect to make a sale? I know that alot of the people who answer the emails are either too busy, can't type very well or just think email is annoying. Pay attention to these people they are your prospective customers and need the same courtesies as the walkins. Thank them for visiting your website, make sure you put your website address in your email so they can visit it again and ask them if they need help finding anything. Just a few extra lines of appreciation for them taking the time to visit your website can mean the difference between a just browsing or a sale. If you don't have time to answer your emails, get someone that knows how to do email to do it for you. Come up with a well thought out response and save it in a drafts folder for easy copy/pasting to speed up email replies. IT can take months for google to index a new site.
One way to get them to index it faster is to create a blog on blogger.com for free.

For example write just one paragraph per day about dump trailers and put a link in the paragraph going to http://www.maxi-dump.com
Do this for 8 days in a row and after the 8th day google will index the new site.

To get Yahoo.com to index your site create a blog thru spaces.msn.com
Write 1 paragraph per day for 3 days in a row.
Bring your blog in as content on your free yahoo account at http://my.yahoo.com/
This will cause yahoo to spider your blog and find the links to your website after it sees that you have posted for 3 days.

Anchor Text for Link Exchanges

Whenever you ask someone to put a link to your site on theirs it is best to also email them what you want them to put on their site. The link should contain your most important keywords. The more of these links you have on other peoples sites that are pointing to your site the higher your site will get indexed for those keywords. For instance I use the anchor text "internet advertising" and "search engine optimization" in the anchor text when I send someone the title and description for my link. This means the search engines will see these words as linking to my site from someone elses and give me points for them. The more of these words you have on other peoples sites that link to yours the better. OF course it is also good to have keywords in the description as well-but the description is not given as much weight by the search engines as the anchor text. As an example below is what I send to people that I want to do link exchanges with. I try to send it in html format so they can easily copy and paste it onto their site.

If you are a Google Adsense advertiser you might want to try this to get your ads clicked on more. When displaying 728x90 leaderboard ads put thumbnail images directly above each of the four ads. It helps of course if your images correspond in some part to the ads being displayed. I have yet to try this but I plan to. Develop a content strategy. The truth is, "Content is King". Most people online are looking for information. The more information that you provide for your customers, and the more valuable it is, the more likely you will make the sale.
The first and most effective strategy are articles.
Articles actually work for you in several ways.
a. Brands you as an expert so that customers come to you.
b. Provides valuable content to your potential customers.
c. Builds a relationship between you and your potential customers.
d. Creates a viral marketing strategy for your site.
e. Builds a linking strategy for you every time a webmaster publishes one of your articles or links to it.
However, if the thought of writing your own content gives you nightmares, there's a way around this.
You can use public domain information. Public domain information is information that is frëe to use because it's in the public arena, or the copyright has expired.
To help you easily locate this information, I recommend that you download the public domain toolbar. You can get it at the Public Domain Forum. You have to register for an account to get the toolbar, but both the forum account and the toolbar are frëe. The toolbar is a very comprehensive resource of public domain sources.

Exchanging Links with Related Sites

I have learned after doing many link exchanges on many different sites that it is better to share links with others in related industries-similar to the way you see many different businesses of the same ilk grouped together at intersections-like car dealerships and gas stations for instance. The reason for this is because the more businesses you have grouped together-it works just like the shopping mall concept-you get more traffic and more traffic means more customers to browse in your store and thus more buyers. It is all a numbers game-the more hits you get to your website (the more eyeballs you can get to look at it) the better your chances of making a sale. I am trying to instill this concept into the minds of some of my newer website customers that are dealing in gemstones but they are afraid of losing potential customers to other dealers thru a link exchange. I beleive that you have far more to gain from networking with other businesses in the same arena than you could ever lose. They will be linking back to you-so they are taking just as much of a chance as you are. It also builds rapor and comaraderie and they are more likely to refer someone to you because of it.

How to get Google to index your website fast:
Go to Blogger.com and create a blog about the same thing your website is about.
In the blog put links in it going to your website (you can copy the text from your website into your blog) Then ping your blog URL so google will pick up those links using Pingomatic.com, it fast, easy and best of all free.

You can also ping your blog so it will get indexed by Yahoo fast by opening a free yahoo account at http://my.yahoo.com/and then bring your blog into it as content for your yahoo page. This will cause yahoo to spider your blog and find the links to your website.

Blogging to Help Your Site on the Search Engines

I have recently suggested to some of my A1AWEB customers to create a blog thru blogger.com to help their sites do better on the search engines. It is the easiest way I know of for them to create content online. The way this works is they write about their website and whatever else they want to write about and put links to their website within their blog. This can also help if you have affiliate programs you want to get more traffic to. Add links to some of your affiliate programs and mention one of your web pages every few days within your blog postings.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to remember to put a link to your websites within your blog.
After you create a blog be sure to join yahoo.com and add your blog as an RSS feed to your My Yahoo web area. You can also do this by joining MSN.com as they offer MSN webspaces for you to create a blog in which you can pull into your yahoo web area. Pulling your blog as an RSS feed into the content of your My Yahoo will cause Yahoo to index that blog. If you post to your blogger for 8 days in a row Google will pick up your blog. And if you put links to your website within the blog-this will cause google to crawl and hopefully index your website as well. Search Engines Don't Care How Big You Are

I consistently hear from companies who are puzzled as to why their expensive, cutting-edge website is perpetually outranked by a site of perceived inferior quality - “our website is better than theirs” or “we are a much bigger company” are common remarks. Beauty is, as always, in the eye of the beholder. The sites that consistently rank highly are almost always using optimization methods that offer something of value to people who entered the search query. Search engines care as much about the size of a company or how much it spent on its website about as much as they care about what you had for breakfast this morning.
Rather than chase the ever-changing technical attributes that can get you short-term results, you instead use optimization methods that leverage your company’s knowledge of your industry to create something useful for the searcher. You can improve your website and offer the information and products that prospects are seeking, even if those prospects are in the earliest stages of the buying cycle. In general, you will not have to watch your rankings swing wildly based upon new spam filters or algorithm shifts, and thus will enjoy a higher level of predictability when it comes to your website (although with search engines, there are never any guarantees). Since you aren’t constantly forced to re-address your site’s search engine optimization methods, you’ll have more time to focus on other online marketing areas that need attention, such as doing link exchanges, creating a newsletter, etc.
So just add more relevant content-even just one page a week or even one page a month and slowly but surely you will get a more long lasting boost on the search engines.

You can sign up for Paypal for free to accept all types of credit card payments, and direct debit on checking accounts for payments on your website. I highly recommend using paypal as I have been using it myself for well over 6 years now.
My Internet Advertising customers use it to pay me when I send them invoices from Quickbooks. I can also use it to send money requests to them. And for paying for something on ebay it is so much easier to use then having to write a check. It's completely secure and the processing fees are not charged to you until you actually sell something. You absolutely must trade links with other sites to get ranked better on the search engines. But you cannot trade links with just anyone-you need to concentrate on exchanging links with sites in industries related to your own. So he told me he got some hershey chocolate recipes in the mail and was going to post those on the website along with affiliate links to chocolates for sale.He found information about the history of chocolate to put on there as well. So with very little forethought he was about to become a chocolate afficiando and well as chocolate merchantier.Of course he plans to put the appropriate color coordinated google banner on his site.I am looking forward to his foray into this new and exciting business enterprise in which he won't even get his fingers sticky. How to Get more Traffic to your website

Another way I tell people to get more traffic to their website is to create a separate webpage that focuses on one keyword or a closely related set of keywords.
When you try to make your website cover too many subjects you don't do well on the search engines for any one subject. This is why you should focus single pages on one subject.For example let's say you are selling all kinds of motorcycle accessories...create one page devoted completely to motorcycle helmets-go into detail about the different brands of helmets,which helmets you recommend most or which ones you use yourself. I could site lots of examples for many different types of industries. For clothing-concentrate one page to be all about capri pants, who wears them, what they look good with, the type of weather to wear them in, where to wear them, etc.,. Try to stay positive in your writing-don't put down someone elses products-that is bad karma. If there is some product you don't like-just don't mention it.The more pages that the search engines have to index that are related to your site the better-so start building more webpages-one page for each keyword. It does take time for the search engines to index your site but it is better to have the pages ready ahead of time for when that time comes.

Making Money with your Website

Another way that you can make money with your website is to put Google Adsense banners on the bottom. If you visit my site http://www.a1aweb.com you can see where I put a banner on the very bottom. When someone clicks thru an ad on this banner I get a tiny percentage of whatever that advertiser offered to pay for impressions and click thrus. You can see how many impressions of a banner shows up on your site and how many people clicked thru it in your google adsense account. The google banner is able to tell what your site is about and provide ads that pertain to the subject of your site. Of course you may end up providing advertising for your competition that way but I feel that your site is more apt to get crawled more often and thus indexed by google more often when you have the adsense banners on it. The reason for this is that the banners are another way of providing fresh related content to your site-similar to a news feed. You can also make more money off your google banners if you place on the tops of your pages. If you do website design you could offer free or discounted hosting in return for your customer allowing you to put google banners at the top or bottom of their webpages.

Earning Money on your website

I had a customer as me how he could make more money off of his Racecar website. Well the first thing I would say to try to make money off your website would be to sell something.
If you are already signed up for paypal you can create a paypal button to put next to the item you have advertised in order to take credit cards for whatever you want to sell.
If you don't have anything of your own to sell then you can sell other peoples stuff by signing up for commission junction at cj.com after you are signed up you can then do a search for anything that has to do with racing and sell that.
Sign up is free...everthing is free as they pay you for selling their merchants products.You get an average of about 5-8% per sale.
You place the links on your website and when someone clicks thru and buys something they take their credit card, fill the order and then credit your cj.com w.a percentage of the sale.No keeping inventory, no taking credit cards, no filling orders and none of the expenses involved in doing that...they do everything.

Can Prices be Too Low?

It always amazes me when I get emails from people saying my prices are too low for website design....are they the price police...or are they just upset that I am undercutting their prices...is that a crime?
One time I got an email from a lady saying I was selling my Boston Terriers for too much money that she didn't charge that much...I told her I was getting what I was asking and she was upset by this. How strange.You can charge whatever you want for whatever merchandise you sell on the internet...where do these people get off saying things like your prices are too low or too high for anything...do they think that saying that will change something for them?
I mean if they feel prices are too high-then just ask for a discount-or give, at the very least, some reason why they feel that way. If you feel my prices are too low on my emeralds website then let me know why you feel that way? You can't expect things to change for you if you don't give a reason why they should be changed.
If after trying everything you can on your website to make sales and you still can't make them then maybe your prices are too high...try cutting them at little at a time on a few items and see if that brings forth some action.Check your competition to see what they charge...you are competeing with everyone in the same industry online so you have to price competitively.

Selling Online

I had an interesting conversation with a doctor yesterday that wanted to sell his emeralds online.
He had seen my Fine Cut Emerald site and I advertise on there that I can add other gem dealers pages to the site to help them sell their own merchandise. I do this in trade for a gem or two....since they have to send me pictures of what they have I get to see their whole inventory and what they value the stones at so I can get a good pick of one that I like. I like helping people to make money and adding other peoples inventory to my site only helps to enhance the site from my point of view. The more inventory you give people to look at the better. I also plan on adding information about these new types of emeralds that will be from Brazil versus mine which are from Zambia Africa. If anyone out there would like to sell their loose stones either rough or cut look at my Emerald website and think about getting on there as I already get over 100 hits a day so the more I give my customers to look at the better.

Providing Quality Link Exchanges for your Website

My feelings are that to give your front page a better page rank you should place all your link exchanges on the bottom of the front page.

Reciprocal Linking

A Reciprocal link is where two website owners exchange links. I put a link from my site to you yours and you do the same for me in return.
That's why it is called a Link "Exchange.

When a savvy website owner finds your site and they see a that you are trading links
with other website owners, they are very likely to contact you immediately and
request an exchange.

Meaning, you are likely to see MANY more requests for a link exchange than you
are to see folks linking to your site because of a "Link to Us" page. Most
web masters will not even bother trying to exchange links with a site than
doesn't already have a quality links page.

It's all about the numbers. You can get more links faster if you have a quality
link exchange page.

But, if you can quickly acquire incoming links by trading links with other web
masters -by all means do it.

Are there any downsides to Trading Links?

Not really. But, it will take time. Meaning, every time you get a Link Exchange
Request, you need to actually publish the link to the Web Master's site that your
trading with to your Links Page.

If you decide to create a separate page just for links to make sure your links page receives some of your site's Google Page Rank get that page crawled and indexed. In fact, your main links page should have a link directly from the home page. Some Webmasters try to bury their links pages inside their site where people can't find it.

They think they're not "giving up" valuable PageRank that way, but what they're
really giving up is valuable link partners who won't trade links with them and
their cheesy tactics.

Finally, on your Link Exchange page, make sure that you are controlling how
the other web masters are linking to you. You can go so far as to provide the
HTML code of the link that you want them to use right on your Link Exchange Page.

Reciprocal Linking is the basis for the web. Such linking creates the structure
of the Internet. Not only can it provide a powerful tool for Search Engine
Optimization, it can also provide qualified traffic if the sites that link to you have a genuine interest in your site's industry.

Add New Content To your Website Each Week

What would happen if you got a newspaper delivered to your door step every day and it contained the same news, just with a different date? You'd stop getting that paper delivered, right?
So, if you think that a Search Engine Spider is going to crawl your site over and over again when the content remains the same - guess again. Now - let's be clear. A Search Engine Spider can find your site a variety of different ways. Often, it visits your site regularly once it has a copy of it in its own index, but it can also find your site by following links from other sites to you, that's why link exchanges are so important. Now, once you stop getting new links to your site, what is the incentive to have your site crawled? Fresh Content. You see, if Google visits your site over a period of time and sees that your site's content has changed, it makes a note to visit your site more often so that it can re-index that new content and make it available in its Search Engine. There's some speculation as to how much content has to change, but the popular consensus is that you need to have 1,000 bytes of information different on your page for Google to register it as a "Change of Content." This usually equates to a few hundred words. Why do we want Google to crawl out site often? Lots of reasons - let's look at them all.
1) When your site is new, when Google visits your site, it usually only crawls the first few pages and indexes only the home page. So, by causing Google to revisit your site often, it will crawl deeper each time. Before you know it, your entire site will be in the Search Engine Index. (Either way, Google will eventually get around to your entire site - if you followed the advice in Lesson#1 and made sure that every page of your site is spiderable. But if Google knows your site is updated often, our friend the Googlebot will return more often.
2) When you're experimenting with your On Page and Off Page Optimization Factors,you want to see the results of your changes quickly. If you have the Googlebot visiting your site more often, it's possible that you can see the results of your changes between the major updates faster.
3) Customers like new content! You want repeat customers? Give your customers an excuse to visit your site! Provide them with information that changes often enough so that they return just to see "what's up." Sometimes the "popular" Search engine optimization advice is ok too - the common advice to "write lots of good content" actually can make a positive difference - as long as you build all the additional content pages correctly. In many cases, if you're close to your industry, you'll be able to provide this fresh content easily enough. But if you're not, you can always utilize Syndicated Content to freshen the content on your own site. Here's what I mean. There are a lot of industry specific news sources on the internet that welcome the Syndication of their Content on other sites. Basically, they want you to put their content on your site! You can do this manually, or you can put an RSS News(Real Simple Syndication) feed on your site that will automatically update your site with new content from aspecific industry every time new content is available. How 'bout that?! Whatever you do to generate the new content, the fact of the matter is that changing the content on your site, especially when it's new to the search engines, can go a long way to getting your site indexed quickly and thoroughly.If you want me to put an RSS news feed on your site go to A1AWEB and email or call me about it.

Search Engine Optimization with Content

If you want to dominate a category that contains dozens or hundreds of profitable
keywords or products, you're going to need multiple pages on your site each
targeting a different keyword from your category.

I'm going to group these additional pages into one lump term - I will call them "Content Pages."

Now a content page can be a product page from your eCommerce Store, a Newsletter,
a Review of a Product, a Recommendation for an Affiliate Product, a Listing of
Related web sites or Directories of useful resources - whatever.

The point is each one of these pages is another opportunity for it to rank.

So, you need to take care about structuring these pages so that they target the
keywords that you've found to be in demand.

If you're an eCommerce store owner selling Truck Accessories, make sure you know
exactly how people are searching for those truck accessories in the Search
Engines. Then, take each one of your product pages that relates to those
keywords and optimize it for those search phrases.

If you're an Affiliate Marketer recommending Consumer Electronics, make sure that
you're recommending those products on separate review type pages. Meaning, if
you're recommending a Plasma Television, make sure that you have a few different
pages each recommending a different popular make and model number.

And make sure that those pages are optimized correctly for the most relevant and
in-demand search terms.
If you're selling an information product with a variety of uses in a single
industry, write as many article pages that you have search terms for. Each
article page should be optimized for one or two closely related search terms, and
they should all, in turn, lead to your sales page.

And don't forget, you can trade articles not just links with other web site
owners. While your competitors are slowly trading just one link at a time, you
can blow by them by getting multiple links at once by providing quality content
in the form of articles to other web sites.

Remember that Google and Yahoo! rank pages - not sites. That's why you need to
think about maximizing your content, whatever it may be, in order to maximize
your chances for ranking.

Case in point: For my eccommerce store at Fine Cut Emeralds, I made sure that
each one of my product pages was optimized for the list of keywords that I knew
people were searching for.

So, in addition to optimizing my home page for "loose emeralds," I also optimized
my internal pages for terms like "emerald rings," "emerald gemstones,"
"emerald jewelry," etc.

No, you don't need a lot of content if you don't need to rank for more than a few
keywords. But if you want to dominate an industry or category, you need to have
at least one page of content for every keyword you want ranking for.

Joining Affiliate Programs

There are many affiliate programs you can join in order to profit from selling other peoples merchandise on your website. You can sell well known, brand name products on your website that are related to what your website is about. One of the most well known top affiliate programs that I belong to go to is Commission Junction.
The 2nd most popular program and also a good one to join is Befree.
I am in the process of teaching my nephew how to create a gaming website to sell video games and video gaming systems. He loves to play video games so I felt that creating a Video Gaming website about them would be a great way for him to enjoy learning about how to create a website and make money at the same time. So far he has done pretty well and is finally doing something more contructive with his time. So if you have a teenager that seems to be wasting too much time playing video games, try turning their passion into a money making venture.

Adding Revenue to Your Site with Affiliate Programs

I like creating websites about things I am interested in...it's a whole lot easier to write about your own hobbies and interests. To help these personal sites generate revenue I add affiliate links selling products related to that particular site. For instance I sell horse related merchandise on my Florida Arabians website. Everything for Boston Terriers, Trucking Products, Karaoke and Biker stuff on my Bike Week site. I also link my trucking site to my Florida Earth Movers site so people looking for heavy equipment can buy trucker merchandise.
Selling related merchandise on your website is just another way for the site to pay for itself.
It can also be a way to capture and hold peoples interest on your website to make it more interesting. I am going to write more tommorrow about how to join these affiliate programs to sell merchandise from Commission Junction.

Overture Tips and Tricks for Better Search Engine Performance

I just came from a very enlightening internet seminar and would like to share what I learned with my Internet Advertising customers and visitors to my personal internet advertising website.
These tips are for my customers that already use Overture. If you are not already using Overture but would like to start please call me at 386-437-2203 and I can walk you thru the signup process even if you are not a customer of A1AWEB Internet Advertising. By going thru me you will receive a credit for $25 more click thrus than if you signed up by yourself. I will also help walk you thru filling out all the forms the correct way and explain the best way to use Overture and these tips and tricks to help your website get more hits.

Finding Lists of Related Terms:
At this seminar I went to they explained how to get more hits thru your Overture account by bidding on related terms.
These are terms related to the keywords you are already bidding on.
To find a list of related phrases in Overture click on the Add Listings tab and look for your Keyword Selector Tool. Put your keyword in the box and click on "Get Suggestions".
You will see a list of words appear that you can check off and add to the "Enter Keywords" box on the right. Try starting off bidding .10 on each of these keywords.
Raise your bids where appropriate.

Voila-you should see a list of related terms using your keyword that you can then bid .10 cents on to get more qualified hits to your site. People who do searches for specific things really know what they want and these are the people you want to visit your site.This is called Targeted traffic.

Bid on Misspelled Words:
At the seminar I also learned that it's a good idea to take the words you are already bidding on and misspell them and bid .10 on the misspelled version of your keywords and phrases. Another trick is to type your keyword real fast and see how the mistypes are spelt-use these mistyped words to add to your collection of keywords and phrases to bid .10 on.

If you can't be in the top 3-Be Last
Another tip is that if you can't afford to show up in the top 3 listings then bid just enough to show up on the very bottom-because most people scroll to the bottom of a page before going to the next page when doing a search.

Broad Phrases
Your keyword phrases could get more hits if you check them off as being Broad
-this way no matter what order someone searches for them in-you will still come up. So check off the words that you want to make broad-then click on Match Type Options
Click on Advanced then Click on Submit.

How to Add Content to Your Website

I want my customers websites to make sales but what many of them don't understand is that marketing on the internet is completely different from selling using other forms of advertising. People looking for products online don't want to read a sales pitch like what you hear in radio advertising or on TV or what you see in newspaper or magazine advertising. They are looking to make well informed buying decisions. This is the reason your content needs to provide as much information as possible about your product, all the different uses for your product or service, and testimonials from people who have bought your product or service. DON'T SELL! Instead warm your visitor up to buy your products by preselling them with great content that they value and respect. They will click thru with pleasure arriving at your shopping cart area ready to buy with an open mindset. How you reach your visitor, what you say and how you refer your visitors to your website to buy is very important and will make the difference between just a visit and an actual sale.You want your website visitor to become your friend or even for them to think of you as someone they can trust and admire as being on top of your subject. Become a knowledgeable friend making a reccommendation to them rather than a stranger making a sales pitch. Or even better become a trusted expert making an endorsement.

Start with a list of keywords that you feel people would use to find your website on the internet. From these create topics that you can write about. Within your writing we can put links from these keywords going to a place where people can place orders on your website or a place for them to fill out a form requesting your services.
You don't have to do all the writing in one day-try to write just one paragraph about each topic for the front page of your site. From those simple paragraphs we can link to pages with more writing on each subject as you develop each topic.

Getting started writing is difficult for just about everybody so don't feel overwhelmed or at a loss for words. Just start off with single keywords about your product or service and under each word write more words that are related to that word. Next-to the right of each word right a single sentence that uses that word in it. After a few of these you will see paragraphs developing for each topic. You may also want to do searches using your keywords and visit other websites to get ideas for your paragraphs.

Improving Your Websites Performance

There are 7 steps you should go thru in numerical order

to Improve Your Websites Performance.

1)Meta Tags:

Each of your pages should have meta tags within the html. To see examples of meta tags go to any of my sites pages at A1AWEB Internet Advertising and click on View/Source. At the top of the html you will see the title, description and keywords....here you can add your own meta tags yourself or I can add them for you...I charge $20 per page to add meta tags to any pages of your site that do not have them or to improve the ones you already have.
I also add a tracker to the bottom of your front page so we can both see not only how many hits you are getting but also what search engines people are using to find you and what search terms they are using. This way we know if the meta tags are correct and also what search terms to use in keyword bidding thru Overture and Google.

2) Submit your site to the search engines:
After correctly worded meta tags have been added to each page of your site then it should be submitted to the search engines. I charge $20 per month to submit your site to the most popular search engines by hand, such as Yahoo, MSN, Google, Alta-Vista, etc.,. and also to over 280,000 search engines, hot lists, directories, indexes, classifieds and ffa lists using Search Engine Commando and Engine Poster software. After your site is submitted it may take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months for the search engines to index your site. This is why I recommend doing step #6 (bidding on keywords thru Overture) while your site is waiting to be indexed.

3) If it is appropriate for your site then you should add a testimonials page:

4) Monthly Newsletter:
Add an easy way for people to subscribe to your monthly newsletter or mailing list and also as an easy way for you to collect email addresses.

(look below the left hand side navigation bar of this site see to a very simple email only request box in order to collect email addresses. )

5) Link Exchanges:
You should trade links with people in related industries in order to help your site get ranked better on the search engines. You need to exchange links with at least 200 sites to help your site get a better ranking on Google. I charge $5 per link exchange as this is a very time consuming process. I must search for sites related to yours for you to exchange links w. then put their links on your site, then email them to ask them to put your link on their site.

6) Join Overture:
to bid on your keywords. By bidding on keywords thru Overture your site will show up on the tops of Yahoo and MSN search engines under sponsored listings. Thru Overture you bid on keywords related to what it is you are selling and if someone does a search using a keyword you bid on and clicks thru to go to your site-you pay what you offered to bid for that keyword...such as .10 cents. You are only charged when someone actually goes to your site. I do my best to get my sites on the tops of the search engines for their keywords thru the use of meta tags and submitting but this is just another way to get more traffic to your site faster-and thus hopefully more sales and prospects. You can sign up for Overture thru me by being on the phone and on the computer at the same time so I can walk you thru the signup process. By signing up thru me you get a $25 credit with Overture, which can be equal to 2500 sales leads. I teach you the best way to fill out the forms on Overture and how to find out what others are bidding on your keywords so you will know what to bid. It is $25 to sign up and from that your click thrus are subtracted. It is then a minimum spend limit of $20 per month to keep your account with Overture active. I do not receive any of the money you give to Overture after you sign up-it all goes to your Overture account.You can cancel your Overture account at anytime and you don't have to put anymore money in if you want to let it sit for awhile and your account will still remain open. After you join Overture you can see what your competitors are bidding on your keywords. You can call me anytime to sign up day or night- I'm always here in front of the computer or nearby out in the yard, it takes about a half an hour on the phone to fill out the forms to sign up online.Yes you can sign up by yourself but I can give you lots of free advice on how to fill out the Overture forms to your best advantage. 7) Join Google:
After learning how to use Overture you will be able to sign up for Google adwords yourself at: http://adwords.google.com/
It is free to sign up...what you bid on keywords is automatically charged to your credit card...I reccommend a minimum daily spend limit of $2 per day for google adwords. If you bid enough for your keywords on google then you should show up on the top of google as well as all the other search engines that google serves results to.

I hope this list of steps to take to improve your sites performance has helped to answer your questions. I know it seems like alot more work than you may have anticipated in order to promote a website but the good old days of just slapping up a one page site and getting results are gone.
